An Old-Fashioned Good Time at Old Street

Over the course of 41 years, Old Street Restaurant and Bar has grown and changed with Smithtown.

As its name suggests, Old Street Restaurant is, in fact, old, especially in restaurant years. The bar/restaurant was first built on Main Street in 1969, 41 years ago.

This uninterrupted presence in the community has allowed the bar to grow up with the town, adapting its menu, prices and look to the different generation's needs while staying a staple.

"We've recently added things like a recession lunch, seasonal items, Sunday brunch and half-price appetizers at night, but we still have our excellent burgers and cheese and cracker platters we have always been known for," said Laura Lombardi, who has owned Old Street Restaurant with her brother Frank Pizzimenti for the past 15 years.

Lombardi and Pizzimenti purchased the restaurant from the original owners in 1995 after Pizzimenti had been working at the restaurant for years. Six years ago, the restaurant's interior was updated and refurbished.

At Old Street, the menu is thick with long lists of fried favorites and a full range of sandwiches, seafood and meat offerings.

The bar and restaurant hosts happy hour 4 - 7 p.m. each day, Monday night football, Ladies Night on Tuesday and half-price appetizer specials on Fridays and Saturdays. Old Street also offers "Recession Fighter" lunch specials ($8.95), in light of the struggling economy and caters both on and off the premises.

According to Lombardi, regular guests range in age from 20 – 80, all attracted to casual dining atmosphere.

Lombardi, who lives in Northport and her brother, who lives in Smithtown, make sure one of them is always at the restaurant making sure things are going smoothly.

"It's a fun, hectic, social business but we all feel like a family here," Lombardi said.  "It's kind of like Smithtown's version of Cheers."
