Fifth grade students from the Smithtown Central School District found success in a New York State math contest, hosted by sumdog.com, challenging students to see how many questions they could answer correctly throughout a 10 day period.

Nesconset Elementary finished first in the contest, a contest that more than 70 schools in the state participated in. Following Nesconset Elementary was Dogwood Elementary, finishing in second place.

Nesconset placed first in nine of the 10 days of the contest, and averaged 4,096 problems answered correctly per student throughout the contest. The school also had three students rank in the top four in problems answered correctly – Dylan Curtin with 65,468 problems, Dipcy Eranki with 39,359, and Ben Levine with 37,195.

Dogwood had two students place in the top 10 for most problems answered correctly – Matthew Wertheim with 18,407 problems and Cole Weiner with 17,013.
