How, in a period of rapidly declining enrollment, can costs be increasing so much from year to year,Read More you ask? The answer is in front of you in black and white. I urge you to READ your district’s budget: we are funding retirements when many of us cannot afford to fund our own during difficult economic times. These wheels were set in motion by contracts negotiated in times of unrealistic growth that may likely not occur again. It is time to open up these plans and relieve this unfair burden from our shoulders. Whatever other measures are pursued in order to control costs, including consolidation within and eventually with other districts, are never going to be enough if you cannot get this problem corrected. Write your congressman, for the love of God. If you need any more incentive to do so, please go to http://rocdocs.democratandchronicle.com/database/teacher-pensions-new-york and look at what Smithtown’s retirees are collecting MONTHLY. It will sicken you.

Tomorrow is the vote..vote NO NOW or our taxes are going to continue to sky rocket. Unless we doRead More something this town will continue to spiral down. More taxes aren't going to help. We need to cut expenses and get ourselves on a fiscally responsible plan.

Hey Robkoz, My posts are disappearing too. I don't like this new format. Not as good as whatRead More they had previously.

WE NEED TO GET THE WORD OUT TO VOTE NO!!!!!!!! OR AS WE ALL KNOW OUR TAXES WILL GO UP! HOW MANYRead More OF US CAN AFFORD MORE TAXES? THE KIDS WILL SURVIVE- AND THE SCHOOL DISTRCT WILL TOO. WE NEED TO STAY STRONG AND TELL EVERYONE TO JUST VOTE NO. BUT.... AS YOU KNOW THEY SNEAK IN ANOTHER VOTE IN JUNE IF THEY DON'T GET THE BUDGET VOTED IN SO WE HAVE TO WATCH AND VOTE NO TWICE! THIS IS OUR TOWN - TAKE IT BACK!

SING ALONG: And the sign said"Anybody caught trespassing would be shot on sight", so IRead More jumped the fence and yelled at the house, "hey what gives you the right? To put up a fence to keep me out or keep mother nature in? If God was here he'd tell you to your face man you're some kind of sinner". (Five Man Electric Band 1971)

I read the related story which pertains from kayak rental companies use of boat ramp at the KingsRead More Park Bluff. I am still unclear as to whether or not a private individual can walk through the greenbelt trail which continues behind Old Dock Inn, or launch a privately owned kayak off the beach next to the boat ramp. Is that in fact "Private Beach" which the sign now states?

That is not true. Pageants open a door for girls/woman to speak out and help out. There are manyRead More different types of pageants to chose from. Not all are about beauty alone. Miss Long Island 1997 Also a Lupus and domestic violence Survivor

We should be teaching our daughters to love and respect themselves and pageants do not do that.Read More Feel like a queen? How about a judge or an architect? As the mother of a disabled daughter, I am appalled by this.

I commend you Congressman Bishop for the proposed legislation and I recommend that you continue toRead More push this legislation again and again. It is a shame that our government continues to handout billions of dollars to companies that are making billions on their own and don't need a public subsidy. Most importantly, drilling for oil instead of investing in new forms of energy is a clear example of the backward thinking of these corporate giants who can't see past tomorrow and are only interested in serving their stockholders and not the national interest. The subsidy does not go towards providing for our national defense. The US military stocks the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to cover our national defense needs. The Republicans in Congress are all owned by the oil companies, That is why you can't get your legislation passed. The Republican Party is the party of the business interest in this country and nothing else. Keep pushing this legislation and others like it.

And now Mr Bishop wants to be exempt from Obamacare, including all the other hacks in Congress thatRead More rammed it down our throats. "Let them eat cake"

I guess I was a month to early- I call SPCA last month to report a case of animal cruelty andRead More nothing seems to have been done about it- my tenants dog is woefully underweight (you can see his ribs) and looks like she hasn't had is nails cut in a year I gave them all the information they asked but when I called back later(twice) I was told that whoever was in charge of the case would get in touch with me(which he never did- leaving a message on my phone with no call back number isn't my idea of getting back to someone) I've still been feeding the poor thing when I can but the tenant is being evicted at the end of this month and I fear he's going to get rid of the dog

Why not just leave the space open....no need to develop every parcel of land. And yes freeRead More enterprise and market demand will sort it out....and then we will have another empty building in Smithtown, just what we need. However I do love some Chic-fil-A........
Skakmati April 3, 2013 at 03:25 pm
Really......what does it matter if there are other 7-11's in the area? Eventually, free enterprise,Read More market demand will sort it all out. In the meantime we have a beautiful building on the corner that disturbs no one, as opposed to a fast food franchise that might raise neighbors concerns and creat more traffic. And the building is surely a big improvement on the gas station that was there (same applies across the street). A Sonic? A Chick-fil-A? Really?

Canon received about $100 million in government aid, including tax breaks from New York State andRead More Suffolk County, and an extra lane on each of the Long Island Expressway service roads. In return you got not new jobs, but just a relocation of existing jobs from four offices in Lake Success and one in Manhasset. Canon “hopes” to add 750 more jobs within 10 years. Wait and see if that happens. Bottom line is that you paid Canon $100 million to keep, not add, 1300 jobs, about $80,000 a job. What a good deal. Wee Little Heart, is that all you got.
