Have You Applied for Your STAR Rebate Yet?

With income tax season upon us, one relief for property owners sunset next week: the School Tax Relief program, better known as STAR.

The deadline for applying is March 1 for Suffolk County residents, with "how to" information on the webstie of State Sen. John Flanagan.

For households with a combined income under $500,000, STAR rebate exempts the first $30,000 in home value from school property tax.

Seniors are eligible for more, exempting the first $62,200 for households with a combined income under $79,050.
