100 Things to Do in Smithtown: #76 - Family Adventures at Nissequogue River State Park

Families can have a summer of discovery at the Nissequogue River State Park Family Adventures program.

Families can experience a summer of exploration at the Family Adventures program run by the Nissequogue River State Park, located at 799 Saint Johnland Road.

The next event will be Fancy Fliers, which is discovering the fascinating skills birds and squirrels have adapted, on July 30 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Then, attendees will create a flight design and test it in a flying contest.

Other dates include Evening Stroll, which is a stroll exploring the park trails to discover the wildlife that are active during quiet evening hours, on August 25 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Additionally, Shell Sweet Shell, which is searching for the creatures that live in shells through games and hands-on activities down by the shore, will run on August 27 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

These programs are usually ideal for children ages five and up along with their families, according to the park website.

Prices for adults are $4, children ages three to 17 are $3, and children under three are free. Parking is $8.

Reservations are required and will be accepted up to two weeks prior to the program and can be done by calling the park office.
