100 Things to Do in Smithtown: #85 - Picasso Art Class at Township Arts Council

The opportunity for children to discover their creative side is at 'Pop to Picasso' art class hosted by the Smithtown Township Arts Council.

The Smithtown Township Arts Council, located on Route 25A in Saint James, hosts “Pop to Picasso,” an art class currently underway that will end June 15. The Tuesday class is for children ages seven to nine years old, and the Wednesday class is for children nine to 11 years old.

During the class, children will learn about art history and use the styles and techniques learned as inspiration for their own projects.

Pop to Picasso is just one course of many the Smithtown Township Arts Council, a nonprofit organization that provides a venue for artists and hosts a variety of art exhibits, classes and events, runs to cater to children – other courses include “Munchkin Arts and Crafts” weekly on Saturdays from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. as well as a summer art camp.

These classes encourage children to find their artistic voice and develop their creative talents. In the words of Pablo Picasso, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.”
