Backyard Foxes: Map Shows Sightings Across Smithtown, Kings Park

More than 50 people share their encounters.

It's not just you seeing furry red foxes in your backyards. According to the more than 50 people who responded to our sightings call-out, these wild canines are turning up in every corner of Smithtown, St. James, Kings Park and Nesconset.

Check out our map above to see where foxes have been spotted, and hear from locals about their fox encounters.

While the map points out more than 50 sightings, we cannot be sure that in many cases it is the same fox showing up at different places.

Editors Note: Before posting this map we received comments from many in the community concerned that we are promoting trapping or hunting these animals, That is not the case. Our map is meant to show just how widespread these foxes, long considered roamers of more wooded areas, have become in the local suburbs.
