Although there have been no reported accidents in Smithtown, Nesconset, Head of the Harbor and St. James by the Suffolk County Police Department, travelling at this time is still not recommended.

"Right now the roads are pretty slippery, I wouldn't suggest you go out unless it's an emergency," said an unnamed police officer from the Suffolk County Police Department Fourth Precinct.

Shelves of snow shoveling and snow maintenance supplies are currently empty at many hardware stores in Smithtown and surrounding communities.

Lowe's Home Improvements in Stony Brook is currently sold out of shovels and snow blowers, but still has ice melt.

Laura Blake, manager of ACE Hardware in East Setauket, said maintaining the snow levels throughout the day is important.

"Shovel continuously. Keep going out there and don't wait 'till it builds up," Blake said. "You definitely want to put some kind of ice melt down. In a pinch we also recommend birdseed for traction if you can't get ice melt."
