DON'T MISS: Fundraiser for Sara Long Harte Scholarship at Napper Tandy's
Saturday event to raise money for high school senior pursuing a teaching degree.
Organizers will host a scholarship fundraiser at Napper Tandy's on Saturday to raise money in honor of Sara Long Harte, a former St. James Elementary School teacher who in 2010 died from breast cancer at 33 years old.
The event runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will feature raffles to support a scholarship program for former St. James Elementary students. The Sara Long Harte Memorial Scholarship goes to graduating seniors who intend to get a college teaching degree.
A memorial garden in front of Smithtown Elementary was planted in 2011 to honor Harte, who was set to begin her 9th year of teaching before she lost her two-year battle with breast cancer.
