Friends of Karen To Raise Money By Running On Treadmills

Two men plan on beating their record of running over 127 miles over the course of 12 hours on a treadmill to raise awareness for the Friends of Karen organization.

Starting at 5 a.m. this Saturday, Dan Turturro, Saint James, and Byron Lane of Stony Brook plan to run side-by-side for 12 hours straight on treadmills at Energy Interactive Fitness Center in St. James to raise money for the Friends of Karen organization.

The goal is to beat last year's combined total of 127 miles and to continue to raise awareness of the importance of Friends of Karen's mission to provide emotional, financial and advocacy support to children with a life-threatening illness and their families.

Although the idea of spending over an hour on the treadmill seems exhausting, these two men are really looking forward to the idea of trying to beat their record and help change lives. “Imagine that tomorrow you found out that your child was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease," says Byron in a statement. "Your life would change drastically and forever.  Friends of Karen picks up the slack so that families in this situation don’t have to worry, so they can focus on their child and their family. Running on treadmills symbolizes their race to try to get everything done all at once.”
