Get Out: Bird Watching, Dance Perfomances and More

This weekend you have the opportunity to get outside and do some bird watching, catch a perfomance of SoLo in Time or a perfomance of the Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra.

The weather is slowly warming up, why not take advantage of it this weekend and get outside?  Two opportunities are available this weekend at Nissequogue River State Park to do some bird watching and find clues left behind by wildlife.  Check out these suggestions and more to occupy your time this weekend.

Where/When: Nissequogue River State Park, Feb. 24, 1:30 p.m.

Why Go: As the weather is slowly starting to warm up this is fun opportunity to get out with the family and look for clues that are left behind by wildlife animals.

Pricing: $4 for adults, $3 for children, $8 for parking

Where/When: Staller Center for the Arts, Feb. 25, 7 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.

Why Go: For a fun afternoon at the movies check out one or both of the movies being featured at the Staller Center this weekend.  The first viewing will be of Salt of the Sea and the later viewing will be of For Colored Girls.

Pricing: $8 general admission, $6 seniors

Where/When: Staller Center for the Arts, Feb. 26, 8p.m.

Why Go: Instead of doing dinner and a movie, why not catch a performance of Stony Brook University's Symphony Orchestra after dinner Saturday night.  Anyone attending the concert can opt to come at 7 p.m. to hear a free pre-concert lecture by Michael Hershkowitz. 

Pricing: $20 adults, $10 seniors

Where/When: Nissequogue State Park, Feb. 26, 10 a.m.

Why Go: This is another great opportunity this week to get outside and do some bird watching.  Take a walk along the pond or the salt marsh or walk through the woods to see a wide variety of birds in the park.  

Pricing: $4 per person, $8 for parking

Where/When: Staller Center for the Arts, Feb. 27, 7 p.m.

Why Go:  Check out a unique performance by Savion Glover in SoLo in Time which is a perfomance that uses tap as sound and sound as dance.  This tap dance performance is one not to be missed.
