Great Escape: Visit the Caribbean in Your Own Backyard

Escape the cold weather by warming up with a cocktail from Cafe Havana.

This week our weekly Great Escape brings you to the restaurant .  After a week of helping with homework, carpools and after school activities Cafe Havana provides some respite to break up the monotony of the week.

With the cold weather refusing to leave us behind, we could all benefit from an escape to warm, sunny weather. Though Cafe Havana can't literally whisk you away from the cold, it can make you feel as though you are thousands of miles away from the moment you step through their doors. Start your night off right by sipping one of their many signature mojitos, sangria, martinis or a nice cold beer.

The restaurant's vast menu offers up a variety of signature caribbean dishes to choose from with a menu full of seafood, plaintains and meats garnished with tropical fruit. Cafe Havana also serves up the caribbean dish, Mofongo. Mofongo is a dish made of mashed green plantains and at Cafe Havana it is topped with your choice of protein including lobster, shrimp, beef or pork. The menu also includes a variety of sandwiches, salads and steaks so everyone can be sure to find something they'll love. If you're not hungry enough to eat something, or you're not quite ready to head home and free the babysitter you can choose to hang out at the bar and drink, listen to live music and enjoy time  out with friends.

Check back with Smithtown Patch each week for a new suggestion on how to spice things up a bit, whether it be a new restaurant to try, where to get a great massage or a show that just can't be missed.
