Groups Busy Planning Political Rallies, Speaker Events and Fundraisers

A weekly round-up of service club activity in Smithtown.

Summer sure has slipped by fast as we approach Labor Day Weekend. The Smithtown clubs and organizations have a full fall season of activities planned. The Conservative Society For Action:

The Conservative Society For Action Meet-Up Group Rally is Saturday, Sept. 4 at 1:30 p.m. on the north side of Route 347, east of Moriches Road near the John Harvard's Brew House. The rally for Sunday, Sept. 5 is at 1 p.m. on the corner of Route 111 and Main Street in Smithtown.

Rotary Club:

The Smithtown Rotary Club meets on Wednesdays at the Watermill and all Rotarians and their guests are welcome. Speaker Homer Vaughan from Long Island Vet Dogs spoke at the Sept. 1 meeting to a full audience. On Sept. 8, Chanie Cohen, program coordinator and Friendship Circle coordinator, will be talking about The Friendship Circle, an organization that extends a helping hand to families who have children with special needs. The Friendship Circle is made up of five parts: volunteers, children, parents, staff, and supporters.

Smithtown Sunrise Rotary Club meets every Thursday morning at the Millennium Diner at 7:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, the speaker will be Liz Giordano, chief executive officer of the Head Injury Association. The Head Injury Association is the largest provider of services to traumatic brain injury survivors in New York State. There are more than 270,000 people in the United States who experience a TBI every year. Giordana has been with the association since 2005 and prior to that spent 13 years managing MercyFirst, a premiere child welfare agency serving more than 3,000 children and families at 27 sites from in New York City and the Metro Area. In total, Liz has more than 30 years of experience in the human service area.

The Stroke Awareness And Prevention Fundraising Car Wash is Saturday, Sept. 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nesconset Center For Nursing and Rehabilitation. Have you car washed for a good cause and learn more about stroke awareness.
