LIRR: Port Jefferson Line Suspended in Both Directions

Broken utility pole leaning on electrical lines.

The Long Island Railroad has announced that service has been suspended in both directions east of Mineola on the Port Jefferson branch, impacting the travel plans of people using the Smithtown and St. James stops. A broken LIPA utility pole is leaning on electrical lines west of the Hicksville railroad station, according to the MTA website.

"LIPA personnel are on the scene west of Hicksville to replace their broken utility pole," the webite reported. The situation is expected to be resolved by about 1:30 p.m.

The LIRR is advising customers to use the Babylon Branch and transfer to train shuttle service between Babylon and Hicksville stations. Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma trains are being sent to Babylon or canceled in Jamaica.
