Look Back: The Sights of St. James Day 2011

The festivities for St. James Day 2012 begin at 11 a.m.

For residents of St. James as well as those of surrounding towns, St. James Day is an enjoyable time for family and friends to take in some shows, arts and crafts, delicious food and more. The day is here and the festivities are set to take place Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

With the day here we'd like to take a look at what went down one year ago on Lake Avenue. Check out these photos from St. James Day 2011.

Its a great day for out of town people to come in, but its become too commercial taking away from what it was years ago with everything (ie crafts) being homemade instead of just the same stuff. I can understand people bringing their dogs but then the strollers and everyone standing in the middle having conversations makes it too congested. Like I said its great for those from out of the town other then that - Ive been skipping it for the last 5 or 6 years.

It's a great day for a community to come together. We live a block away and while it is crowded that is part of the fun. We are lucky to live in a town with such town pride. The strollers, dogs and abundance of kids make it a special day for all. So rarely do we get to walk side by side with our neighbors and Saint James Day makes it possible.

I used to love St. James Day. I was so disappointed today. It seems its become a place to advertise your business, get donations, meet politicians or eat. Very few "arts and crafts". Lots of pocketbooks, sunglasses and scarves. And its not just St. James Day its happening with. Lets get back to the real Arts and Crafts show please!!!! I won't go back next year if this is how its going to be.

It's a flea market now. Some people, kids, are afraid of dogs! Our girls, 17 and 12 don't want to go anymore.

I missed the last few St. James Days and went to this year's. It was nice to see all the people and my daughter enjoyed running into her school friends, but I have to say I was very disappointed by the vendor selection. There used to be a lot of cool and unique arts and crafts that my wife and I enjoyed browsing and buying. This year it was full of cheap stuff made in China. I don't know if its the fault of the organizers or just that arts and crafts vendors are very rare but I have no compelling reason to go back to St. James Day next year, unless my kids drag me there.
