Record-low temperatures have frozen over most of Miller's Pond in Smithtown leaving local wildlife to chill out on the ice or migrate.

While it seems the Canadian geese have sought out warmer waters, ducks and seagulls gathered together in small groups along the ice at Miller's Pond or in small pockets of unfrozen water.

As of noon on Tuesday, high temperature of the day is 10 degrees. Yes, 10 degrees with wind chill making it feel closer to -8 degrees, according to the National Weather Center.  It's not expected to climb much higher.

Forecasters have issued a Wind Chill Advisory for winds expected to make temperatures feel from -10 to -20 degrees below zero through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures aren't expected to reach above freezing until Thursday, so Miller's Pond ice sheet might continue to grow. A sign warns visitors, "Absolutely no ice skating."

For now, stay indoors and enjoy the photos we took before frantically racing back to the car. And if you must go outside, here is a Patch list of safety tips.

No Skating on Miller's Pond :(. I grew up nearby and once it froze over, you practically had to use force to remove me from it. One of my earliest memories is my older brother and his friend taking me skating in Maple Ave. park (!) when the tennis courts were used as an outdoor rink. I think that experiment lasted one season. The little park off of Brooksite Dr. was actually a pond at one point, and there was a year when it froze over enough to skate on it. Our Brownie troop skated on Weld's Pond. So much skating fun while growing up in Smithtown; like a live-action version of the opening scene of "A Charlie Brown Christmas."
