Nesconset Library Invites Teens to Create Gingerbread Houses

The library will host an event Wednesday for teenagers to come and build gingerbread houses.

Young adults are invited to celebrate the sweet magic of the holidays by building an enchanted gingerbread house with a variety of colorful candies at Nesconset Library on Dec. 22 , from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"I did it last year. I buy the [gingerbread house] kits and extra sweets, and they make their own creations," said Librarian Amanda Deguiseppe of Nesconset Young Adult's Department.

The gingerbread house kits make assembling simple and let the group spend most of their time on the creative part – decorating and using their imagination. The kits come with pre-baked house pieces, premade icing to "cement" the house edges together along with the roof, windows and a door. Then they just add the sweet treats.

There is a material fee of $5 due at in-person registration, which began on Dec. 6. Registration is limited.

"I take up to 15 kids and have eight registered so far," Deguiseppe said. "It's grades six to 12."

The group will be meeting in the community room where they will build their very own sweet creations.

"I just put on the radio, and they make their own fun out of it," Deguiseppe said.
