A Commack resident is one of dozens of Long Islanders who fell victim to an ongoing phone scam.
According to Suffolk County police, the Commack resident received a call Aug. 13 in which the caller allegedly fooled the homeowner into believing that a family member was arrested and needed money for bail. Police said the victim sent the money, but then learned it was all a lie.THREE VILLAGE

Stony Brook University's newest visiting professor is none other than Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Carl Bernstein, who along with Bob Woodward broke one of the biggest stories in American politics in the 1970s when they exposed the Watergate controversy as reporters for The Washington Post. The university announced Thursday that Bernstein, 69, has been appointed to a two-year position as a visiting presidential faculty member who will teach and give lectures for the School of Journalism and the departments of English, history, political science, sociology and writing and rhetoric.

Huntington Supervisor Frank Petrone cited a need for improved communication as the top finding in a recently released report analyzing the Town's response to Super Storm Sandy.
The 78-page report, presented to the Town Board last week, makes specific findings and recommendations about the Town’s actions in dealing with the storm and its aftermath and possible changes in Town procedures and policies.

Northport Lawyer Seeks Votes for Maxim 'Hotties' Contest
Camila Medici, of Northport, is asking her community to back her bid to become one of Maxim's "Hometown Hotties 2014." The contest, run by the men's magazine, seeks out sexy women in neighborhoods across the country and asks readers to vote for them in a series of elimination rounds.
"They say it takes a Village...well, I have just made it to the Maxim Hometown Hotties Competition, and you can vote for me and our hometown once a day," Medici, who works as an attorney, wrote on an announcement posted on Patch.
Medici runs her own law firm in Melville, Medici Law P.C., specializing in worker's compensation cases.
