From Hauppauge: Education Commissioner, State Senator Visit Hauppauge Schools 

Two state officials got a boots-on-the-ground look at what the Hauppauge school district is doing these days – and they liked what they saw. Department of Education Commissioner John B. King, Jr., and Sen. John Flanagan, R-East Northport, toured Hauppauge Middle School and Pines Elementary on Monday to observe classes and facilities and talk with students and faculty.

Town Busts Commack Marijuana Farm

Smithtown Public Safety officers arrested a Kings Park man on Wednesday night for helping tend a marijuana plant farm inside a Commack water recharge basin.

Mark Kern, 44, is charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the third degree, a felony charge, after undercover town officers found him tending to more than 100 marijuana plants off Vanderbilt Motor Parkway and Redleaf Lane in Commack at 10:22 p.m., according to Public Safety's Deputy Chief Kevin McPadden.

From Three Village: Stony Brook University Hires Executive to Market New Discoveries

A new executive has arrived at Stony Brook University hoping to commercialize discoveries that come from university research and development, according to a report published this week in Newsday. Peter Donnelly has been appointed director of the office of technology licensing and industry relations after holding a similar position at Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois.
