Oct 18: Present, Past, Calorie Blast

Articles and events to fill your Monday.

Begin the work week right with today's set of articles and events. Mondays theme each week is "Smithtown Past and Present," and the site is typically filled with articles on Smithtown history (by columnist Rita Egan) and on current events (like today's on the art auction).

Have something to put in our 5 things column? Add it to our calendar.

1. Explore Smithtown's past with columnist Rita Egan. This week she writes about a local church celebrating a big anniversary. Missed one of Egan's history columns? Take a look here.

2. Read this week's Q & A with Smithtown doctor Dr. Mitchell Kohan.

3. All fitness levels are welcome at a weight training adult education class from 4-5 p.m. at the Smithtown Central School District administration office.

4. Missed the games this weekend? In football, Smithtown East lost to Bellport but Smithtown West defeated Centereach.

5. Photography Club meets tonight at 7:30 at the Sweetbriar Nature Center. Love taking photos? E-mail amandaf@patch.com, we always welcome more photographers to capture Smithtown for the site.

"Why are Smithtown teachers continuing to pay for school supplies out of their ownRead More pocket?" Since when? Ever see the big list of supplies kids get in their folders at the end of the year for them to bring in next year? I think you're talking about the wrong school district.
