Money will help Smithtown-based nonprofit train companion animals for servicepeople.

On Friday, representatives from medical supply company Henry Schein presented a check for $56,000 to Smithtown-based America's VetDogs to support programs that pair assistance dogs with servicepeople.

The money was raised partly by fundraisers held by Henry Schein employees.

According to the Melville-based company, it takes roughly $50,000 to train one dog to become an assistance animal for veterans, though America's VetDogs gives them to veterans for free.
