Photos: Polar Vortex Freezes Long Beach Surf, Smithtown Bay

By Sunday, it all should be gone.

The chill is gone, but the sub-zero wind chill of the past two days had left its mark on Smithtown as of Thursday morning.

The bulk of Smithtown Bay was frozen solid, after the Polar Vortex created Arctic-like temperatures from Monday through Wednesday.

On the Long Island Sound side of the bay, Long Beach was crusted in frozen surf.

The ice won't last for long, though. Temperatures for Thursday should barely break the freezing mark, but by Saturday it will be 53 degrees.
