While brain drain isn't exactly something locals are unaware of, age statistics from the 2010 U.S. Census show that it's definitely affecting the makeup of Smithtown.
According to the report, locals aged 20 years old to 24 years old make up only 4.5 percent of the population in town, while those aged 25 years old to 29 years old make up 3.7 percent.
Meanwhile, residents between 40 years old and 49 years old make up nearly 20 percent of the population.
The median age of Smithtown residents is 42.7, according to the Census.
