Smithtown Today: Heat Wave, Free Music and the Case of the Missing Signs

Your daily guide to what's happening in the community.

Good morning, Smithtown. Here’s a look at what’s happening on Tuesday.

- First, it’s hot. Incredibly hot, which means beaches should be packed, pools jumping and the ice cream trucks running 24/7. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the county until 8 p.m., expecting the heat index to top 100 degrees. So please stay cool and safe out there.

- The Brush Barn features live music at 8 p.m., part of its summer concert series.

- As for us, we're heading to the Nesconset Sprinkler Park to see how folks are cooling off in this heat.

- A fellow local has taken their frustrations over the look of the Nesconset Plaza to our boards. Do you agree, or is this criticism too harsh?

- Town Board meets at 2 p.m. today.

- A brawl that broke out in a Commack Chuck E. Cheese restaurant this weekend has gone viral, with most people appalled after watching the video of the fight.

- A story last week focused on town councilman Robert Creighton’s claim that his campaign signs are going missing. Do you think it’s fair for the supervisor candidate to point fingers at his opponents though?

- The Smithtown Library wants to know: Is your kid enrolled in summer reading?
