Smithtown Triathletes Compete at Inaugural Smith Point Triathlon
Sandra Scanni of St. James won 2nd place overall in the women's event. Lisa Halloran and Dianne Finneran of Smithtown came in first place in the female 20-24 and 40-44 age groups.
Over 550 triathletes participated in Event Power LI's first annual Smith Point Triathlon, sponsored by Anti Hamptons, TTU University.com, Getco, Between the Ports, TwoTots and the Town of Brookhaven. It was held at the Smith Point County Park in Shirley last weekend.
The course consisted of a 500 meter swim, a 20K (12.3 mile) bike ride and a 5K (3.1 mile) run.
The 2010 Smith Point Triathlon will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Wounded Warriors of Long Island.
