Smithtown Widow Thanks Kings Park Fire Dept For Efforts to Save Husband

Heartfelt thanks go out to those volunteers who offered help in a crisis.

A Smithtown resident has reached out to share her public thanks to all members of the Kings Park Volunteer Fire Department for their efforts to aide her husband.

Donna Del Vecchio, wrote this letter to Patch, thanking all those who responded to a 911 on July 16 for her husband, Michael, who later died. He was 53.

She writes:

On July 16, 2013 I received a call from my daughter that daddy had fallen and for me to come home from work.  I live about 10 minutes from work and when I arrived home there were numerous ambulance vehicles and police cars. For those who know my family there were plenty of times we had to call 911 due to Michael being a diabetic since age seven.  Michael had been through much the last several years due to diabetes, but no matter what he always had a smile on his face and did his best for his family.

I just want to thank all the Emergency Medical Technicians, Police Officers and all the other First Responders who were at my home that day trying their best to revive my husband Michael.

I have been wanting to write this thank you but I was and still am in a state of shock and do not recall who was at my home that day.

One of the police officers even stopped by the next day to see how my husband was doing.

Again, I do not remember much but I do remember my son and I sitting outside and telling him that Michael had passed.

Thank you everyone for being there for my kids before I was able to come home and trying to keep them calm.  I do not know your names and cannot recall your faces, but I know you did all you could for my husband of 31 years.

                                                        Sincerely, Mrs. Donna Del Vecchio
