This Week at the Library District: Create Your Own Comic Book

This week the Smithtown Special Library District features events ranging from catching a viewing of 127 Hours to learning how to create a comic book.

Kicking off the month of April at the Smithtown Library District is a unqiue program for children in grades 3-5 on Friday, April 8 at 4:30 p.m. in the library's Nesconset Branch. The program is a opportunity for children to get in touch with their creative side. Hatke is a children's comic book author and illustrator, best known for his work on the comics Zita the Spacegirl and the Flight Anthologies. Hatke will be leading this program which which teach children to have go about writing and creating their own comic book. He will focus on creating characters, illustrating pictures and writing a story. This is a program not to be missed by any child who has a love for writing or drawing.

New Movie Matinee

  • Time: 1 p.m.
  • Description: This month you can come down to catch a viewing of the movie 127 Hours starring James Franco.

Adult Writer's Group

  • Time: 7 p.m.
  • Description: This is the monthly meeting of the Adult Writer's Group, which provides an opportunity for writers to come down and share their work with other writers and get feedback.

Wednesday, April 6

Teen Volunteer Opportunity

  • Time: 7 p.m.
  • Description: Teenagers can come down Wednesday night to make a craft that will be donated to either a child or a senior citizen and earn an hour of community service.

  • Time: 4:30 p.m.
  • Description: Children can come down for the weekly LEGO Club meeting and build something while having fun with other children.

Thursday, April 7

AARP Tax Help

  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Description: This is one of the final weeks for individuals to come down and get assistance in preparing their taxes.  This program is by appointment only.

Friday, April 8

  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Description: This program for one year olds is a great opportunity f0r children to come down and play and learn from language based games.

Saturday, April 9

  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Description: This is an open play session for children to come down and create something and have fun with other children.
  • Location: Children's Room, Main Branch
