This Week at the Library District: Try Zumba, Pilates or Meditation to Get In Shape

The Smithtown Special Library District features events this week ranging from Zumba classes to learning how to build your own birdhouse.

Physical health is being promoted at the Smithtown Special Library District in May with three classes this being offered this week at the Commack branch. First up is , a series of Zumba classes with two sessions available Wednesdays throughout May at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The program  is open to people ages 16 and up and is an opportunity to exercise and have fun while doing it.

Sticking with health promotion, library patrons can participate in the class Meditation for Everyday Living with John Bednarik on Thursday at 7 p.m. This class will teach individuals how to use meditation to relieve stress in their lives and in general improve the quality of their daily life by practicing meditation techniques.  

Saturday brings another new series of workout classes for the month of May with taught by Paula Siegler. Yogalates combines the use of yoga and pilates to form workout that helps you loose weight and strengthen your muscles.

  • Description: This is the monthly meeting of the Smithtown Library Board of Trustees. This meeting is open to the public.

New Movie Matinee

  • Time: 1 p.m.
  • Description: Come down to catch this month's new movie showing of Country Strong starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw.

Adult Writer's Group

  • Time: 7 p.m.
  • Description: Local writers can take this opportunity to come down and share their work with other writers and get feedback on their work.

Suffolk AYEC

  • Time: 6:30 p.m.
  • Description: This is a meeting of the Suffolk AYEC, it is open to the general public.

Friday, May 6

 

  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Description: One year olds and their caretakers are encouraged to come down and play along with games that encourage building language skills.
  • Location: Meeting Room, Nesconset

  • Time: 4:30 p.m.
  • Description: Kids can celebrate Free  Comic Book Day by coming down to the library and learning how to make their own comic book to bring home.
  • Location: Gillard Meeting Room, Main Branch 

Saturday, May 7

  • Time: 10 a.m.
  • Description: Children are encouraged to come down and build or create something during this open play session.
  • Location: Children's Room, Main Branch

  • Time: 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.
  • Description: Children in grades 3-5 can come down Saturday and build their own birdhouse in this woodworking class.
  • Location: Gillard Meeting Room, Main Branch
