Uncle Giuseppe's Joins St. Jude to Fight Childhood Cancer

Month-long fundraiser begins Monday in Smithtown and other Long Island locations.

When it comes to finding cures for children with cancer, Uncle Giuseppe's wants to make a difference.

The family-owned gourmet supermarket joined forces with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on Monday for a month-long fundraiser to support research and treatment for those with childhood cancer.

In previous years, the campaign, called “Give Thanks, Give Hope,” raised a combined total of $76,325. This year, with the help of Uncle Giuseppe’s customers, the goal is to bring that total to $125,000.

“As a family-owned company, Uncle Giuseppe is committed to St. Jude’s work to find cures for childhood cancer and its devotion to keeping families together,” said Uncle Giuseppe’s co-owner Carl DelPrete, in a statement. “Partnering with them is a cause that’s close to our hearts.”

Towards that end, Uncle Giuseppe’s customers are asked to donate $1 or more when checking out of any its five locations, including in Smithtown. The company will then match 100 percent of the donations up to $20,000. Customers who donated can post a “pin-up” with their name to be displayed storewide throughout April.

St. Judes claims to be the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance, and where children are never denied treatment because of their family’s inability to pay.

Founded in 1998, Uncle Giuseppe’s five Long Island locations include not only Smithtown, but also East Meadow, Massapequa, Port Washington and Port Jefferson. Its corporate headquarters are in Farmingdale.
