Soldier's Memorial Missing from Smithtown Main Street

A Kings Park mother begged Smithtown officials for help in tracking down her late son's military cap - one of many items missed when his memorial suddenly disappeared. 

Rose Byrne came forward to ask for public's help in finding items stolen from the memorial for her late son Seamus Byrne, an army veteran who received the Purple Heart for his service in Afghanistan, who was killed crossing Main Street after a birthday celebration in February 2011.

Cupcake Couture Closes its Main Street Store

Residents with a sweet tooth will no longer be able to grab a designer cupcake on Main Street to satisfy their craving. 

Cupcake Couture, a designer cupcake shop, recently closed its doors at 91 East Main Street in Smithtown. A large red-and-white "For Rent" sign was hung in the front window of the bakery as it becomes Main Street's next vacant storefront. 

Deepwells Cancels Annual Fall Festival, Haunted House

This Halloween, things might be a little less spooky in St. James. 

Deepwells Farm Historical Society Board has cancelled its annual Halloween Haunted House and Fall Festival traditionally held on Columbus Day weekend in St. James. 

Staples Closes in Lake Grove

The Staples in Lake Grove has closed, nearly a year and a half after the office supplies chain opened a newer storefront just a mile away in Stony Brook.

As of Monday, workers were taking down the signs at the former DSW plaza storefront, and signs saying the store was closed covered most of the windows.

Whisper Landing Developers Sue Town, Smithtown BZA for Rights to Build

Developers of the proposed Whisper Landing assisted living facility have filed a lawsuit against Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals and town officials for failing to render a decision on their special permit application. 

St. Johnland Development Group filed a lawsuit on Sept. 25 in Suffolk County Supreme Court over the right to build 136-bed assisted living facility on Route 25A and River Heights Drive, Newsday reports.
