Week in Review: Vecchio Narrowly Wins GOP Nod, Conservatives Go with Creighton

Smithtown Cheer Coaches Launch Nesconset Training Center
Whether you consider cheerleading a sport or an activity, the level of athleticism required has certainly been upped a few notches in the past few years and two Smithtown School District cheerleading coaches are focused on getting cheerleaders as in shape as any other student athlete.

Kristen Perri, a varsity cheerleading coach at West, and Shari Tarburton  a health and physical education teacher for the district and a cheerleading coach at East, run Cheer360, a facility in Nesconset dedicated to getting cheerleaders physically and nutritionally fit for the sport.

Volunteer Residents Help Rehabilitate Wildlife at Sweetbriar
There is a special group of folks at Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown who have taken their love of nature to assist in the rehabilitation of the more than 100 injured wildlife animals that come to the facility and get them ready to re-enter their habitat.

Conservatives Go With Creighton
The Smithtown Conservative Party on Wednesday endorsed town Councilman Robert Creighton for supervisor, two days after incumbent Supervisor Patrick Vecchio picked up the Republican nod.

The endorsement sets the stage for a September primary, when voters will decided whether the 12-term supervisor or the town councilman will take on Democratic lawyer Steven E. Snair.

Buy, Sell & Trade Shop Opens In Smithtown
19-year-old Chris Quagliata, may be fresh out of high school, but he is no stranger to the buy, sell and trade business.

The Commack grad has been bidding on storage lockers and selling goods on e-Bay for the past few years, sometimes turning a tidy profit.

He recently decided to make his business official and last week grand opened his store Quag's in the Morewood shopping center in Smithtown.

Smithtown Native Takes on 4K Mile Cross-Country Bike Ride
When the school year ends, and most of his fellow Mansfield University students head to work and possibly take summer classes, Tom Grisanti will get in his last serious training before embarking on a 70-day, 4000+ mile bike ride from Baltimore, MD to Portland, OR.

Vecchio Narrowly Wins GOP Nomination
Twelve-term Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio has won his party's nomination in his bid for a 13th term, though only by a narrow margin.

Smithtown Student Named Valedictorian for Stony Brook School
Smithtown student Tuna Cen Hayirli will be the Valedictorian for the Stony Brook School's Class of 2013.
