As a local news organization, Patch covers stories of all kinds, from heartbreaking tragedies to inspiring tales of community brotherhood. But some stories are just plain weird. Here are some of the stranger headlines from the past seven days.

Mystery Headstone Washes Up on Beach

A unique find was recently brought to the attention of the Sound Beach Civic Association and Rocky Point Historical Society, as a man working on the bluff in Sound Beach stumbled accross a headstone which dates back to the late 1880's.

Sound Beach Civic President Bea Ruberto and others are hoping community members can help in reading and identifying the names on the headstone.

"The names are not very clear, but the consensus is that the first names are Johann and Friederich and the last name is Grune or Gruner," Ruberto said. "Several people are researching this but have not been able to find anything definitive."

According to Ruberto, Barbara Russell, the Town historian, believes that this is the stone for two children after pouring over the photographs.

Just a "shot in the dark", but perhaps ck out Gruner www.geni.com/projects/Gruner/2670.....it's a pretty long history, but it may help....there were some of these Gruners that were referenced to Mt. Sinai......just a thought!

Monkey Lewis, Very disturbed becasue of your comment. If you read the story carefully, you will see that it is a headstone of two children from the late 1880's. The fact that they are German names couldn't possibly have anything to do with a movement that did not yet exist. The tone of your comment is what makes movements like nazism fluorish.
