Whiz Kids: Four East and West High School Students Finalists in 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program

Whiz Kids: Sanjay Palat, Alice Shan, Julia Apoznanski and Angelina Seffens

School: Smithtown East High School (Palat and Shan) and Smithtown West High School (Apoznanski and Seffens)

Accomplishment: These four high school seniors have been named finalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Palat, Shan, Apoznanski and Seffens have all been selected as finalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarship winners are chosen on a criteria based on abilities, skills and accomplishments. The selection process for this program began in 2009 when approximately 1.5 million high school juniors in roughly 22,000 high schools took the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
