The Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts gives locals a chance to catch major theater productions on home soil.

Located on West Main Street, the has put on staged productions of well-known musicals for nearly a decade, all from a theater that's been in the area for almost a century.

It's run by the nonprofit Smithtown Performing Arts Council, and the shows range from being put on by professional actors to using a cast of local youth performers. That's the case with the most recent show, a production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" put on jointly between the center and the Youth Experiencing Art project.
