This Day in History: Smithtown Township Arts Council Wraps Up 'Available Space' Exhibit

The exhibit featured the work of eight artists with art that interacted with its surroundings.

On this day in 1999, the Smithtown Township Arts Council ended its “Available Space” exhibit, consisting of the art of eight artists, according to an archived New York Times report.

According the report, the exhibit featured the work of Jane Ingram Allen, Janet Nolan, Deborah Farre, Marcia Widenor, Pamela Cooper, Ann Farrell and more. Requirements for the work displayed were for the art to have must its own integrity and complement and interact with its surroundings.
