8 Businesses That Closed in 2012

From coffee shops to clothing stores, here's a list of what businesses closed their doors this year.

Reports on vacant storefronts throughout the Town of Smithtown – with a heavy emphasis on Main Street in Smithtown – were some of the stories that received the most comments on Smithtown Patch in 2012. Here's a list of eight businesses that shuttered locally this year.

Sertinos Cafe

The final efforts to bring in a partner and save Sertinos Cafe have fallen through and the West Main Street eatery is now closed. The official closing date was Oct. 28.

Split Image

Camera shops are a rare species on Long Island, and they are one step closer to becoming extinct with the closing of Split Image Photography on Main Street. Split Image has been open since 1984 on Main Street, first occupying the now home to Tropical Smoothie Café until 2008, then from 2008 until October in its 6 East Main Street location, next to Uncle Louie G’s Italian Ices.

Ji Sushi & Chinese Food

Although there is no competition from any restaurant or fast dining eatery on Route 25A from St. Catherine of Siena Hospital in Smithtown to Main Street in Kings Park, Ji Sushi & Chinese Food only managed to last two months at its Rose Street corner location.

Mandee

Less than one week after closing in February, the former home to Mandee on West Main Street is bare, as if the store was never there. The only remnants of the chain are the stained letters left from the sign from years of weather beating down on the awning.

Frank-N-Burger

There's nothing monstrous happening at St. James-based Frank-N-Burger anymore. The movie monster themed burger joint shut its doors in January, leaving an empty storefront at the spot once well-known for its large hot dogs and unusual burger toppings including ham, pineapple and "sweet" sauce.

The Barn

What was once a popular drive-thru deli is no longer as the doors on The Barn on Main Street have been closed since early February. Back in February Smithtown Patch reported that the status of the location was in limbo. A store representative, who asked to remain nameless, said in February that they would close to renovate but there isn't a guarantee that the location would re-open.

S&S Deli

If you're looking to pick up a quick drink, morning coffee or some cold cuts, you can't do it at S&S Deli on West Main Street as this location is one of the Smithtown's many vacant storefronts. The now closed deli sits with its windows bare next to We Buy Gold and Villa Napoli. The deli is also in the same parking lot as the former homes to Mandee and Smithtown Hardware, closed for two months and more than a year ago, respectively.

Villa Napoli

One of Smithtown's most recognizable pizzeria and Italian restaurants has closed up shop, leaving another vacancy in an area where empty storefronts outnumber working ones. Villa Napoli closed its doors in May and practically gutted the 82 West Main Street shop.
