Booming Business Prompts Local Consignment Shop to Expand

MS Cureiosity's Closet faithful clientele keeps the sales growing and prompts a bigger space.

Open barely a year, MS CUREiosity's Closet has already outgrown its digs and has just opened in a larger space on Lake Avenue.

Manager Lisa Geraci the store was doing so well, they needed to expand.

"We have a faithful clientele and new people come in all the time," said Geraci.

The designer consignment boutique offers part donated goods, in which 100 percent of the proceeds go to MS research, and part consigned goods, which 60 percent goes to MS through the foundation,  Cure MS Foundation of NY,  run by the shop's owner, Filomenia Lombardi.

The inviting space offers more room for goods, with dressing rooms in the back. A gently used Kate Spade bag can be found beside a Fossil shoulder bag along with gowns for dressy events, jeans, tops and shoes among other items.

"Things are unique and different," said Geraci. "Many of the people who consign with us also buy. People bring in items that still have the tags on them."

The success of the store can be measured in more than just sales. Lombardi's recent MS Fundraiser raised $60,000, which was given to the Stony Book Research Foundation. Retail therapy like that is something a girl can feel good about.
