Carpenters Union Protests at Aldi Supermarket

Union workers were in the Aldi Supermarket shopping center on Monday morning protesting the use of non-union workers when the market was built even though it's been more than a year since it first opened.

"We usually have it when it's started and ongoing," said one of three union workers out on Route 347 who did not wish to be identified when asked why the protest was coming so long after the store opened.

He explained that the union wanted to bring awareness to the fact that the company used non-union workers because if they ever build another one, they might consider using union workers.

He said that the union-Carpenters Local 253-has protested other company's sites including Mercedes Benz in Smithtown and Huntington and various Shoprite supermarket locations around Suffolk County.

A call to a representative from Aldi's was not returned by the time of the publication of this story.
