Del Fuego Goes Whole Hog to Celebrate 2nd Anniversary

St. James restaurant hosts fall fiesta as it marks its local success.

A St. James restaurant is throwing a whole hog on the spit to celebrate its second anniversary this Sunday.

Del Fuego will be celebrating Hogtoberfest this Sunday, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.,  to mark its second anniversary of opening up in St. James.

Del Fuego, which opened at 429 North Country Road in 2011, marked a departure for owner Joseph DeNicola from the Italian-style fine dining experience he's created at his three other establishments, La Tavola in Sayville and Ruvo, with locations in Greenlawn and Port Jefferson.

The fresh Tex Mex style, DeNicola told Patch, was in reaction to changing demands in the food service industry as people started looking for fast, fresh and casual.

DeNicola's instinct has paid off. Now, two years later, Del Fuego become a local hotspot in St. James with its mixture of traditional Mexican and Southwestern dishes.

Del Fuego's anniversary celebration will have a live pig roast, as the restaurant will feature a pig roast buffet menu ($19.95) including turkey and pumpkin chili with butternut squash, jalapeno macaroni cheese, Del Fuego's rice, black beans, grilled corn, jalapeno corn bread, chipotle mashed sweet potatoes and of course - the pig “El Cerdo” with tequila apple BBQ sauce.

In addition to the feast, Del Fuego will offer Brooklyn Brewery pumpkin ale, hot apple cider and host its own pie eating contest, so make sure to bring your appetite.

The party will feature live entertainment by Martin & Lucas from 2:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
