Empty: Smithtown Fish Market Gutted

Add the Smithtown Fish Market to the list of ones that got away in town. After eight years in the Uncle Giuseppe's shopping center on Route 111, the market has closed.

As of Saturday, the market had been emptied out and signs from Gator real estate services company hung in the window.

A woman who answered the phone at Gator's office on Monday said the brokers were out of town at a convention.

Last summer, owner Eunkyung Kwon told Patch that his market was facing certain challenges including rising fish market prices and competition from the nearby Uncle Giuseppe's supermarket.
