Pool Company to Fill Vacant St. James Storefront [Empty in Smithtown]
Lake Avenue, formerly a pet shop and fitness center, will soon have new life.
The free-standing building at 543 Lake Avenue will make the plunge from empty local eyesore to working business after the new year.
According to Denise Voelker, a Realtor with Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty in St. James, a local pool company currently operating in the Smithtown area will make the Lake Avenue building its new home.
Prior to gathering dust for several months, the building housed the Wag n'Tail pet supply store, which sold feed and supplies for many of the area's furry and feathered friends, as well as Lake Avenue Fitness, a small space where trainers helped locals to get in shape.

Voelker said the new tenant will tear down the wall dividing the two spaces to create one showroom.
The company is leasing the building for $3,000 a month.
