Javier's Cafe Builds a Brunch Culture on Main Street

New breakfast and lunch spot regularly has a short waitlist on weekends.

Make sure to get in line early if you want an omelet from Javier's Cafe this Saturday.

Edgar "Javier" Viera, chef and co-owner of Javier's Cafe, said he's seeing a steadily growing group of regulars at Smithtown Main Street's newest breakfast and lunch restaurant, which opened its doors two months ago. There's often a 30-minute wait to be seated for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, according to Viera.

"The weekends can be very busy," he said. " During the week, it starts off slow in the morning and we get very busy by lunch."

Among the most popular dishes are "The Javier's," the chef's own personal choice which combines Sausalito turkey, Pepper Jack cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing on grilled rye bread ($10.25); and the grilled chicken sandwich with roasted peppers, eggplant, pesto and fresh mozzarella cheese ($12.25).

Breakfast diners are requesting the Oreo white chocolate chip pancakes ($7.95) and the  bacon, tomato, scallions and cheddar cheese omelet ($9.50)

There might be a few seasonal changes coming to Javier's Cafe.

"Maybe at the end of the fall we'll change the menu up a bit," Viera said. "For the winter, because it's cold we will run a lot of special for lunch that we can pair with soups. A small sandwich and a cup of soup."
