Jewish Temple, Christian Church Share Space on Edgewood

Partnership helps keep temple in business.

The Temple Beth Shalom congregation on Edgewood Avenue Smithtown has a new tenant sharing its space, and they're not what you'd expect.

The Jesus Christ Lives Church, a primarily Spanish-speaking congregation, has begun sharing the temple space, following a decline in membership to the Jewish temple, according to Times of Smithtown.

While Beth Shalom once boasted 1,000 families as members, that number has dropped to 25, prompting the ownership to invite the Christian church to share the space.

"It was instantaneous that we built a phenomenal relationship," synagogue member Laurie Passalaqua told the newspaper.
