Kitchen A Bistro Owner to Open New Restaurant in Miller Place

Eric Lomando owns two St. James restaurants and is set to open his third in Miller Place, a Rustic Italian eatery.

Owner Eric Lomando of the popular St. James restaurants and is set to open his third restaurant, this time in Miller Place.

According to Liz McCutcheon of Kitchen A Bistro, the owner of the two restaurants is set to open Orto, an eatery that will serve rustic Italian cuisine. The restaurant will be located at 90 North Country Road.

McCutcheon said the restaurant will only serve dinner and while Orto will have a wine list, customers will be allowed to bring their own wine to accompany their meal.

McCutcheon said Lomando is looking to open Orto before Christmas.

Kitchen A Bistro is known locally for it's top-rated French cuisine and a menu that changes often. At one point it was the highest ranked restaurant on Long Island by Zagat's guides. Kitchen A Trattoria offers the same format, but focusing on rustic Italian.

Does that mean Brian Scott's is closing :(
Rich Arleo (Editor) December 6, 2011 at 10:42 pm
Alyssa, it looks that way since it is in the same building...I will make a call and see what I can find out.
antoinette December 7, 2011 at 02:45 pm
I wonder if Eric Lomando is aware that he will be located in the Historic District and should consult the HDAC with any changes to the structure which was once a Miller family owned home. I wish him good luck. If the food is the same quality as his other two restaurants, he will quickly gain a following. I will look forward to eating there!

I wish they would have put it where that new Walgreens is going! The last thing we need is another ugly drug store (right across from a CVS and a Rite Aid!)
Alyssa December 7, 2011 at 06:02 pm
Plus I LOVE Brian Scott's!
antoinette December 7, 2011 at 06:45 pm
I agree with you, Alyssa. We are inundated with a needless quantity of drug stores, banks and pizzerias. I cannot believe another bank is going up on 25A, Mt. Sinai near Heritage Park.

We should be happy that such a FINE chef wants to open out this way - we need a high caliber restaurant of this sort as there are very few out this far east
I am very excited !

Although I am happy that another nice restaurant is coming to MP, I am sad that they need to take one away in order to make it happen. Any word on Brian Scotts? Are they relocating or just closing for good?? If they are closing I need to get over there before they do!!

Alyssa, just to keep you updated, there has been no answer at Brian Scott's the past two days. I will head there today to check it out, but from what we can tell and what we are hearing, it has been sold and as Eric LoMando said, he hopes to be open before Christmas so things could move very quickly here. We'll keep you updated

For all of those who enjoyed Brian Scott's, I am sorry that the restaurant has closed. I believe chef Brian has moved on to East Wind. I personally look forward to joining the miller place community and working our hardest to deliver a wonderful neighborhood restaurant. We will strive to deliver Excellent food and service at fair prices, in a comfortable environment. We look forward to serving the people of Miller Place and surrounding towns.

I appreciate your concern and have no desire to alter the structure of this beautiful building. We will simply be doing some minor cosmetic enhancements. We hope to offer a dinning experience worthy of this historic setting.
Alyssa December 8, 2011 at 07:35 pm
That makes me very sad! We had no warning. I am excited to try the new place though.
Rich Arleo (Editor) December 8, 2011 at 08:22 pm
Eric, thanks for the great comment and info. Looking forward to speaking to you in the coming weeks, and welcome to Miller Place!

Welcome to Orto! I look forward to many a good meal there. Are you taking reservations?
Eric Lomando December 9, 2011 at 01:10 am
We are not taking reservations yet. We are finishing up some last projects. We are hoping to be open the end of the month but we do not have a fixed time line yet. If you either join our mailing list for Kitchen A Bistro (Signup form on our website) or like any of our restaurants on facebook, we will keep you informed.

I'm looking forward to having another good restaurant in town, especially right around the corner from the beach, pretty cool!

Eric et. al.;
Welcome to your new home! We can walk to the new Orto! Keep the corking fee low (we have never gone back to Blonde since 2004 where the corking fee was higher then the wine per bottle cost? Higher then restaurants in Napa?). Will fish around for a FB site, you should snag www.facebook/Orto so we can start liking it! See you over there, lots of activity even over the weekend! Congratulations and welcome!

I was at Kitchen A Bistro recently for the first time. I think it will become my special occasion restaurant. I only wish I could go more often!

I am in shock! My husband & I just had our wedding there in early October!! While I am sad that Brian Scott's is no longer ( we were looking forward to having dinner there several times throughout the year & especially on our 1 yr anniversary), we look forward to coming for a visit & tasting the new cuisine. But please, leave a lot of the charming details (especially the 'Love Shack'-the sectioned off table for two-It was adorable and such a different touchI) & the rustic wood feel.
Happy this change didn't happen to us right before our wedding & cause any problems!!!

Welcome to Miller Place! I have a question: I have a gift certificate to Brian Scott's. Do you think it will be honored here?
Debi Salino January 6, 2012 at 01:22 pm
I just received a gift certificate for KITCHEN A BISTRO can I use it at ORTO?
george January 20, 2012 at 05:05 pm
seriously?? brian scotts was horrible. yon can get a better meal at tgif's. thats why he is no longer there...
george January 20, 2012 at 05:11 pm
eric, as a life long miller place resident and "foodie", i wish you luck here. you have some stiff competition with places like alexandros. brian scotts along with the other place that tried their luck in that location did not make it because they were horrible. the times my family and friends went into brian scotts we always came out unhappy. being we are a close nit community, word travels fast and broad. if you have a great product with good service you will do well here.

You are absolutely right pj. Its comparing apples to oranges. Assisted living is for the elderlyRead More that cant take care of themselves. What noise is created. They are indoors and at the age where driving may not be an option. And the facility faces Route 25A. A main corridor that has been used as a main road for over 50 years. A road that has gas stations, bars, hospitals, nursing homes, retail stores and high schools presently on it. Why not an assisted living.
P. J. Miller June 18, 2013 at 10:06 pm
Exactly. Don't see a problem having it. Many of them don't even go outdoors.

We have an assisted living center right next to our neighborhood. For the most part it is quiet,Read More there is not a lot more traffic, it even looks nice. I will take it over another strip mall, supermarket, bar any day . Like the previous poster wrote, it serves our community.
