Give the cook the night off with a gift card at a favorite local restaurant.

Gift certificates are a convenient and useful item to give for the holidays. Most restaurants offer them and who wouldn't enjoy a night of being waited on?

Here are a few local restaurants selling gift cards this holiday season:

FeelGoods Cafe – Gift certificates could be bought from the St. James either in store or online.

H2O Seafood Grill – Gift cards can be purchased online or in-store, and your balance can be checked on the restaurant website.

Outback Steakhouse in Commack and East Setauket – Here, you can buy $100 in gift cards until Dec. 31 and take home a $20 bonus card, which can be used from Jan. 1, 2012 to Feb. 10, 2012.

Applebees – If you'd like to purchase a gift card for Applebees and use it in Commack or other locations there are multiple ways to do so, from a digital gift card to ordering them online and having them shipped, customizing them on Facebook and more.

Friendly's – With nearby locations in Smithtown, Commack and Stony Brook, gift cards can be purchased in various amounts online and in-store.

Pace's Steakhouse in Port Jeff and Hauppauge – Gift certificates can be purchased in-store at both locations.

Outback Steakhouse: Here, you can buy $100 in gift cards until Dec. 31 and take home a $20 bonus card, which can be used from Jan. 1, 2012 to Feb. 10, 2012.

"Why are Smithtown teachers continuing to pay for school supplies out of their ownRead More pocket?" Since when? Ever see the big list of supplies kids get in their folders at the end of the year for them to bring in next year? I think you're talking about the wrong school district.
