Main Catch to Open Its Doors in Commack

Former Southside Fish & Clams reopens as a full service restaurant.

More than a year after Southside Fish & Clams closed for minor renovations, the seafood haven has found new life as a full-service restaurant.

Main Catch, a seafood, steak and sushi restaurant, is preparing to open its doors to customers at 1095 Jericho Turnpike in Commack. The restaurant has not set and opening date yet.

The former Southside Fish & Clams seafood was a fish market and restaurant that closed suddenly in early 2011.

The restaurant owners announced on their website that "Our Commack location will be temporarily closed for minor interior alterations, to better accomodate our guests. We anticipate our grand re-opening to be in the spring of 2011, offering a full service venue and opening under our signature name the Main Catch..."

Southside Fish & Clams in Commack was originally a branch off of the Lindenhurst restaurant off Montauk Highway.

Zagat rated? Zagat ratings are based on customer comments and reviews. How does a restaurant that has not yet open possibly have a Zagat rating? Fact check!

Yes, it had gotten pretty bad. And then they just disappeared with their BS reopening info. I won't believe anything till I see it, and have no expectations that the food will be less inedible then before.

Mario Will the food continue to be served on plastic plates, along with plastic knives and forks? My wife had quite a time cutting her steak with a plastic knife. We later learned that silverware was available....only if a deposit was left for its rental. Never experienced anything like this in any other restaurant we ever attended....not even a fast food eatery.! Needless to say,we never returned.Unbelievable!

The place had gotten pretty strange. Great idea, horrific execution. You had to beg for water, plastic ware, bread or buns. The plates were cheap. Tables and chairs small and uncomfortable. Staff unpredictable - from very poor up to fair. Some stuff seemed frozen rather then fresh. Plus little to no marketing; the place was usually empty, yet it still took forever for food to be prepared.
