Meet the Owner: Craig Lowenthal, Sertinos Cafe

Lowenthal opened the eatery roughly one year ago.

While Main Street in Smithtown is littered with vacant storefronts, there are several thriving businesses keeping people in the area. One such business is Sertinos Cafe.

Owned by Craig Lowenthal, the eatery opened roughly one year ago. In this time Lowenthal has made Sertinos Cafe a standout business, with live music, a go-to place for business meetings and more.

Here's your chance to get to know who Lowenthal is, from his daily routine to life before owning Sertinos and more.

Very pleasant to eat there. Good sandwiches great soups and ice cream as well as smoothies. It's a comfortable environment to enjoy by yourself with a friend or a conference

We live in St. James and San Francisco. Last December my best St. James friend and her husband invited us to a lunch at Sertinos. It was as wonderful as she said it would be. The food was simple and delicious. One negative was my potato chiips. I had saved them for back home and they were stale. I called and spoke to Craig. He was so gracious about my trivial complaint and said they were having a problem with the chips. Some good, some not. He offered me a free ice cream the next time I was in townlm Unfortunately, a fall in San Francisco (what better place to have a fall!) and my husband's postponed surgery, made for a short summer visit to our home in St. James. I only had two weeks there and it wasn't till it was time to go back that we remembered Sertinos. Hopefully, this December we'll go back. I have to let my best friend know since she is younger and I will rely on her to remind me. Glad you are having a successful business.

That's funny! I was there shortly after it opened and I had the same exact reaction, good sandwiches, very good soop and stale potato chips. I advised of that but apparently it has made no difference so far. One would think it is easy to change potato chip supplier. Don't give up on him yet!

Please let me correct my spelling, it should read "soup"!

It's ironic that everyone is having problems with the chips. I haven't so far after 6 or 7 visits, but my wife keeps saying that they need either macaroni or potato salad as substitute. I'm kind of suprised that North Fork Potatoes hasn't jumped all over the problem. Not the best advertising, but then again, maybe they are growing too fast for their own good.
