O's Food and Wine Bar is back after a brief hiatus, and chef Phillipe Corbet said the change is being well-received.
"A lot of people are happy it's back. Pretty much all the regulars are coming back," he said.
Corbet, also O's managing partner, said the building's landlord asked him to bring the tapas and wine restaurant back after plans for Bin 107, a New American eatery, fell through. Bin 107 had been open less than one month when owner Mike Schumm decided to forego the project.
Schumm said he is focusing his energies on his other recent restaurant endeavor, .
The restaurant is still focused on New American cuisine, but there are plenty of international influences in the menu. For starters, their tapas menu, which is , features items such as Japanese-style fried duck drumettes, pulled lamb flatbread with spicy yogurt sauce and figs and truffle risotto lollipops.
For dinner, O's serves dishes including Moules Frites, a classic Belgian dish of mussels in broth served with fresh-cut fries.
Among locals, O's had been know as one of the best happy hours in the area, due to its wine list and small-plate offerings. The newly reclaimed restaurant is a return to that, offering a wine list with tastes from across the globe.
Corbet said he is splitting his time between the reclaimed O's and a new restaurant he is working to open in West Islip. While he said the transition back from Bin 107 was "challenging" due to some physical fixes that needed to be made, he hopes O's is on its way to being the well-reviewed specialty eatery it had been.
"We're starting with a smaller menu than we had, but we will build it back up as we're making money," he said.
