P.F. Chang's to Open in November

The Chinese-American bistro sets an opening date for its Smith Haven Mall location.

P.F. Chang's is slated to open Nov. 4 at the Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove.

The Town of Smithtown's Board of Zoning Appeals voted unanimously last November to approve variances for the construction of the restaurant, next door to The Cheesecake Factory. Part of the agreement, was that P.F. Chang's would not install its trademark 11-foot-tall terra-cotta horses on either side of its doorway. According to the bistro, the horses symbolize the original Forbidden City in China, which was built for China’s first emperor Qin Shi Huangdi. The statues would have been mounted on 3-foot, 8-inch tall bases, standing nearly 15 feet tall over entering customers.

The statues would have prevented the mall from getting free-standing signs in the future,  Michael Colamusi, sign consultant hired by P.F. Chang’s said.

The Lake Grove site will be P.F. Chang's second Long Island location. The other is at The Source Mall in Westbury.
