PHOTO: Gas Station Changes Payment Pricing Ways

A St. James gas station now charges the same price for cash or credit.

A longtime St. James gas station is now charging the same price for cash and credit.

Sunoco, located at 560 Middle Country Road near Wendy's, recently made the change and announced it with a double-sided sign sitting alongside the road.

Last year a number of local gas stations were under harsh criticism for charging significantly more for charging gas versus paying by credit card. In November of last year Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone warned price gougers that price gouging in Suffolk County would "not be tolerated."

Glad to hear that. Now I can either go there or a Hess station. I'd really rather use Sunoco, so whenever I need gas around Smithtown, I'll go there.

I used that station all the time. I usually pay cash but since cash and credit are the same once I figured I would charge it. I noticed that I received a seperate 1.00 charge on my credit card. So in effect, you are paying an extra .10 cents a gallon up to 10 gallons. That annoyed me so I still use cash there.

I thought the same thing about the extra dollar but It is only for authorization. It comes off your credit card once the sale is completed through your credit card company.

Chris incorrect the 1.00 charge is to make sure funds are there once your put your fuel in you will only be charged what you take the 1.00 charge drops off . Since the machine doesnt know how much you will take it confirms the account is live by holding a 1.00 against the account. The 1.00 never gets deducted :)

I stand corrected.
